Relaunch Success Stories
"I have "relaunched" twice in my career, the first time after a nine year career break and the second time after a seven year career break. During my first break, I decided to get a Master's degree in electrical engineering (I already have my Bachelor's in EE). During my second break I did a lot of volunteering and I moved my family across the country. I took a program management certificate course at U Mass Lowell and also took a graduate level online computer networking course there. When I was applying for a position at BBN, another BBN relauncher noticed my resume and recommended they interview me. I am now a tech lead and the software manager of a ten person engineering team. My kids are older so I was able to devote the time first to updating myself, and now to a full time position. I recommend to other engineers and people in tech fields returning from career break that they try to take classes in person if possible (as opposed to online). I found the material had more of an impact than with online classes. However, if online is the only way you can take them, then do that. The technical updating is really important."
